Training

All of the undergraduates and some of the other students new to the project spent the day in training. Jess gave her GPR masterclass, Steve an introduction to surveying and Geoff, Belinda, Greg and Leonie explained our recording techniques and conventions used on site. Elsewhere we have managed to assemble and test all of the kit and the post-ex, recording and visualisation teams are all ready to go. Gareth has started producing the current season’s sets of visualisations, currently focussed on the area of the elliptical building. Henriette has Portus ARK up and running and Hembo is busy creating new widgets for managing archaeological images. It is thankfully a little less hot than yesterday but the sky is a cloudless blue and the area around the dig house is looking beautiful.

Over the coming weeks we will be focussing the excavations on the area between the amphitheatre and the Late Antique wall to the SE, on the top of the wall and the adjacent warehouse, on the SW frontage of the cistern complex and on an area connecting the amphitheatre to the imperial palace.
