Dendrochronology

Wood preserved in-situ in a cistern at Portus A team led by S. Manning (University of Cornell) took samples of surviving pine and oak cladding around the inside of the Hadrianic cistern at the north end of the site for dendro-chronological dating. It is hoped that these will help confirm the chronology of this part of the site as well as provide the basis for undertaking some research on the nature of wood supplies to the site.
