Geophysics survey
An intensive Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey was undertaken in May and September 2008 within the large warehouse building on the southern side of the excavation area. This was undertaken as part of the fieldwork strategy to use excavation and geophysics in a complementary fashion to understand the layout and occupational sequence of a large area of the Palazzo Imperiale. The aim in 2008 was to integrate the GPR results with the results of earlier (2007) magnetometry, topography and resistance tomography work. These are being used to enhance our understanding the warehouse as fully as possible before a sampling-based excavation in 2009.
