New excavation season with updated recording system

This season several new technical improvements have been made in our recording and archiving process. Firstly, we updated our excavation recording system ARK (link to LP). Secondly, we replaced our MS Windows based laptop with Mac Mini Server.

Mac Mini accommodates ARK, file storage (including photo archive with more that 30000 photographs), back-up system and printing service. Changeover to new server and new ARK has been seamless and people have been using it from the first excavation day without any technical problems.

Finally, we introduced a digital photo registry. Livescribe Pulse pen is used to fill in traditional paper based photo registry form, but now, in addition of paper registry we get a digital copy and transcribed text. This is used for automatic metadata insertion into image files.
