Water routes in and out of Port
The landscape of Portus has completely changed since the decline of the port in the 6th century. What was the open water of the Claudian harbour has been reclaimed and is now under the suburbs of the town of Fiumicino, and very few people view the site from a boat, as many would have done in antiquity. As part of an AHRC funded dissemination grant, a series of computer graphic reconstructions were produced to help give a sense of this lost landscape, and suggest the experience of travelling in and out of the port at different times in its development.
