Funding & Institutional Collaborators
The Portus Project represents a key partnership between the University of Southampton and the British School at Rome in a broader, long-term initiative to better understand the maritime port of Imperial Rome and its relationship to both its hinterland, Rome and ports across the Mediterranean as a whole.
At the large scale, the Portus Project brings together researchers and specialists from the University of Southampton, the British School at Rome, the University of Cambridge, and the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma. It has been funded in large measure by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), together with substantial support from the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma, the University of Southampton and the British School at Rome.
