The Portus Project is a key partnership between the University of Southampton and the British School at Rome in a broader, long-term initiative to better understand the maritime port of Imperial Rome and its relationship to both its hinterland, Rome and ports across the Mediterranean as a whole. At the large scale, the Portus Project has brought together researchers and specialists from the University of Southampton, the British School at Rome, the University of Cambridge, the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma. The site currently forms part of the Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica, one of the largest archaeolgical parks in Europe, an institution with which the prohject has a close collaborative relationship.
