Later Second Century
After the completion of the Trajanic enlargements, the Palazzo Imperiale and other administrative buildings at the heart of the port witnessed continued construction in the course of the mid to later 2nd century AD. In particular, a small bath complex was built on the south-western corner of the Palazzo Imperiale. At this time, Portus also saw the construction of the so-called Grandi Magazzini di Settimio Severo, a major complex that was built immediately to the west of the Palazzo Imperiale, effectively forming an extended complex. Although the building is generally interpreted as a warehouse complex, there are arguments to suggest that it hosted a number of activities related to the processing of ships and cargoes moving through the port. There was also an important phase of re-construction of the so-called Grandi Magazzini Traianei to the south-west.
